Neighbors in the Snow

Approaching the house from the river

Just breaking out of the woods on the driveway

Wide expanse of driveway approach

Heidi checking out the forest drive

Do you think they are in the hot tub?

Because these photos have very subtle gradations of white and gray in the snow and many areas of high contrast of branches with a sky or snow background, the jpeg compression still produces a large file. Note the 2 small photos above; they are a slice of the last large photo. The difference in compression can be seen in the snow on the lower left where the jpeg compression chooses a color for a relatively large block of space. This creates a jagged line of boxes rather than a gradual change of gradation. All of these photos compress to a larger file size than most photographs because of the many subtle changes in color and contrast.
